Transport
In
1900 the new exciting invention of the car changed the way people
used transport. These new cars were called "horseless carriages."
Trams, bikes and horse-drawn carts were also popular forms of
transport. By 1919 cars had outnumbered horse-drawn transport.
Steam trains were also a major form of transport. (See also Sport
and Games.)

and Games
Swimming
and boxing were sports loved by many people. The new lifesaving
club at Bondi started Australia's tradition of lifesavers in 1906.
Diabolo was also a popular game using two sticks, string and two
cones. The point of the game was to do tricks like spins and jumps
by stretching the string. (See also Transport.)

Facts
Basically
every school started with the Raising of the flag and the singing
of "God Save the Queen."

Teachers
punished children by hitting them with a cane or stick. At the
end of every year there was a big test. If a child did not pass,
they could not go on to the next year level.
